FRANZ EHRLICH
1907 - 1984
German architect and artist
Franz Ehrlich was one of the versatile architects and designers of the German post-war period. From 1927 to 1930 he studied under Walter Gropius at the Bauhaus in Dessau.

Typical of Ehrlich’s architectural outlook is the monumental building-complex of the »Franz Ehrlich« House in Berlin-Aldershof (the foundation stone for which was laid in 1950).
The complex consists of three cubiform functional zones: the conversion of a factory site which had been destroyed in the Second World War, a nine-storey tower block which adjoins it, forming a dominant feature, and the production wing with studios and transmission rooms.

»The ultimate goal of all artistic activity lies in architectural construction!«
WALTER GROPIUS
1919 The Bauhaus Manifesto

Consideration of acoustic requirements (rooms with trapezoid layout for music recording and polygonal layout for radio plays) enabled the whole to be constructed as a quadrant.
